Makanani Lyau: Aloha or hello, my name is Makanani Lyau and I am the director of Lyaus Luau show a Polynesian entertainment group in the Washington DC Metro area. Today we are going to teach you how to Hula to 'Little Brown Gal' using the Auana style of Hula. The Auana style is also known as the modern style of hula in which your hands are used to tell a story. Throughout these clips we are going to teach you the basic hula step such as that the Kaholo, the Ami and the Uwehe and then we are going to break down each verse of this dance and then put it all together at the end. We will dancing in the traditional Hawaiian Pa'u Skirt which is loose and gives freedom for your legs and knees to move. So we recommend not to wear pants or jeans or anything that touches the ground, for you need your freedom of your legs to move.

But before we began it's important to know this is a cardio exercise even though it looks easy, it is important to consult your doctor first. Another important issue is the surface in which you will be dancing, we recommend a hard surface like wood or tile versus carpet because it puts a lot more pressure on the joints. I have been dancing -- Polynesian dancing for going on eight years now and I started our Polynesian entertainment group a year ago and now we are going to take you to the tropical islands of Hawaii and learn the basic how to Hula to 'Little Brown Gal'.
