How to Clean and Protect Your Deck

<p>Greg Reveles: Hello, my name is Greg Reveles, I am the founder of Renorr Dynamics incorporated in Alexandria, Virginia. Today I am going to show you how to properly clean and protect your wood or composite deck. I am going to cover site assessment an equipment setup, prepping your deck to clean, washing, choosing between sealers, stains, wood preservatives or paint, the application of those wood protectants, clean up and deck maintenance intervals.</p><p>Some of the tools and equipment that we will need for these jobs include a gasoline powered pressure washer, hoses, a wood pre-treatment chemical, a pump up garden sprayer for applying the wood pre-treatment. There are few other items that I will cover at a greater detail later. For safety you want to of course use eye protection, you want to consider gloves, boots, you may need a ladder, be very careful about using ladders and also -- while very rare you are dealing with high pressure washers and a puncture is a possibility.</p><p>If you should ever get a puncture wound, you want to call 1-800-222-1222 and they will assist medical professionals in the proper way of caring for a water pressure wound, but they are again very, very rare. Before we begin let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Virginia native, Alexandria, Virginia native. I graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree.</p><p>I started Renorr Dynamics pressure washing business in 1993. I have been an active participant in a board of directors member for the power washers of North America, that is the trade association for pressure washing and now that you know little bit about me, let us move onto deck cleaning.</p>
